Proposed Timetable Changes - Update

Cllr Paul Hadfield's Enquiry to Northern

Appended below is the email enquiry sent on behalf of Woodsmoor & Davenport rail users re the proposed timetable changes...

I'm getting numerous complaints from Residents in relation to the planned removal of train services to Woodsmoor and Davenport station (as yet not published for start May 20th). In particular the removal of services during peak times.

The current service is heavily used and its removal could lead to over crowding/ safety issues on earlier and later trains as well as crowd problems at Hazel Grove station.

The crazy situation is made worse by the fact the trains will still run, but go straight past both stations without stopping.

In addition to this, there are serious child protection issues in relation to the planned removal of services, as the local Grammar school does not open until 8.00am for an 8.40am start. The removal of the 7.38 and 8.03 service will leave children stranded out of school with no where to go. Some of the children travel a great distance from Buxton/ Chapel to reach the school. They will need to leave home at 6.00am to get to school on time and then wait outside the school while it opens (that's if they can actually get on the train).

I'm sure you will agree we should be encouraging the use of public transport and measures like this do nothing to help.

Any help with this matter would be appreciated.

Best wishes,

Cllr Paul Hadfield MSc, MCIOB
